BUILDING BRIDGES BETWEEN OUR FAITHS
ISLAMIC CENTER OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and BETH SHIR SHOLOM

On the weekend of November 13th Beth Shir Sholom and the Islamic Center
of Southern California, celebrated a special 'twinning' event,' a weekend of
prayer, fellowship, and heart-felt dialogue between our two sacred communities.

At our Friday evening Shabbat TISH, our communities united in an inspirational
service led by Rabbi Neil, Cantor Ken, Jihad Turk, Director of Islamic Center, (seen above left with his sons and Rabbi Neil). Picture on top is the TishTones, BSS Choir, and Shofar Blowers, as we welcomed members of the Islamic Center, led by Jihad Turk, Director of Religious Affairs at the Center. Picture on right just above and standing on left is Ben Youcef (Muslim Singer).
(Musical clips of the service can be found below)
On the following Sunday afternoon, we reciprocated by joining our Muslim neighbors at their place of worship in downtown L.A., sharing prayer, food and fellowship, and entering into a unique converation on "Confronting Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism Together."
Rabbi Neil has been a leader in Muslim-Jewish relations
On September 10, 2006 the Islamic Center of So. California awarded our Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels the Muslim Peace Award for exemplary contributions towards promoting peace, justice and harmony in the community, after the attacks of 9/11.
