Darfur
Since February 2003, the Darfur region of western Sudan has been devastated by an ongoing conflict that has resulted in the deaths of an estimated 200,000 people and forced two million more to abandon their homes and livelihoods. Survivors remain vulnerable to attacks by militias that operate on the outskirts of camps and villages, starvation, dehydration and disease as a result of extreme isolation in one of Africa's harshest environments.  According to the United Nations, the situation in Darfur continues to be one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world today.  The IMC has provided critical emergency medical and health related services for conflict-affected people of South and West Darfur since July 2004.

IMC implements health and training programs aimed at responding to the immediate needs of communities and building the long-term capacity of the health care system.  Hundreds of thousands of refugees and Displaced Persons in the bordering African countries, Sudan and Chad, also receive critical health services for Darfurians and Chadians by operating essential primary health centers, running mobile clinics and providing nutritional care and building wells and water systems.
