At Beth Shir Sholom learning is a joyous exploration, filled with curiosity, personal discovery,  and the possibility for change.  Our philosophy recognizes learning as an interactive process and believes that only through asking questions can our children learn, make Judaism a meaningful part of their lives, and enrich our traditions in creative ways.    A central part of our approach to education and the pursuit of understanding is to encourage inquiry into all aspects of our Jewish heritage.

We have chosen our teachers because they themselves are positive role models for Jewish living and are invaluable resources to our students and their families.   Our instructors are certified by the Bureau of Jewish Education.    They are caring individuals who bring  their dedication and nurturing spirit to our children.   Our educational curriculum and programming are designed to empower our students to comfortably and proudly participate in Jewish life.

We hope that you will join us in cultivating the religious training of your children by taking what they have learned in the classroom, and making it relevant in your family practices.    We look forward to a partnership with you, in building a strong Jewish future.

For kindergarten through third graders, our Chaverim program focuses on Shabbat, holidays and Jewish family life. Our first through third graders get a lively introduction to Hebrew letters and vocabulary in Aleph, Bet . . . Go!

The Hebrew and Religious School program for fourth through seventh graders emphasizes moral and ethical development, strengthening their Jewish identity and knowledge of Torah.  Individual study with Rabbi Neil and the Cantor Ken prepares our B'ney Mitzvah students to become full participating members within our synagogue family.

Our programs for teens, including Club 78 and BESHTY and Confirmation, encourages them to explore personal and social issues and dilemmas within a Jewish context.   Our ongoing Adult Education classes, a perfect compliment to their children's Judaic studies, are offered throughout the week.

Madrichim
Many of our High School grade students participate in our Madrichim program. These students serve as teacher’s assistants in the Religious School as they assist in all classroom experiences and serve as a wonderful “dugma”, role model, for the younger students. The madrichim meet regularly with the Principal to study pedagogy and Judaica to increase and develop their skills at inspiring and guiding our students.

Please feel free to come by and meet us.   We would love to show you around, get to know you, and answer any questions you may have.    To make an appointment, please call our Principal, Cantor Ken Cohen at (310) 453-3361 or email Cantor@BethShirSholom.org.
